A strategic partnership between Charlie Solutions and Potain to connect tower cranes
The management of tower cranes is a major operational challenge for operators, rental companies, and construction firms. The proliferation of crane components, the geographical dispersion of fleets, pressure on equipment availability, and increasing safety and regulatory compliance requirements are making traditional tracking methods increasingly complex. In an industry where even the slightest downtime can directly impact the continuity of construction projects, having a reliable, centralized, and actionable view of the fleet is becoming a strategic lever.
It is in this context that Charlie Solutions and Potain, a manufacturer of tower cranes and a brand of the Manitowoc Group, announce a strategic partnership aimed at modernizing tower crane management through a connected and directly operational approach. This collaboration is fully in line with the industrialization of the IoT and Industry 4.0 applied to tower crane equipment.
A connected solution integrated into the Potain ecosystem, designed for real-world conditions
This partnership was born out of a shared observation: crane fleet managers need reliable, accessible, and centralized data without complicating their processes or multiplying the number of tools they use. Everyday reality demands solutions that are simple to deploy, robust, and capable of integrating into existing environments.
From now on, Potain cranes, whether new or used, can be delivered equipped with Charlie Solutions technology. Operators have a fully operational solution available upon delivery, capable of providing real-time visibility of crane components. Customers also have the option of gradually retrofitting their existing fleet to transform all their cranes into a connected fleet, controlled from a single platform.
This connected offering meets a clear ambition shared by both partners:
Simplify the management of a fleet of cranes without complicating their operation.
By connecting the key elements of the crane—masts, chassis, booms, and accessories—operators have a reliable, centralized view of their fleet. Inventory becomes more accurate, component availability is known in real time, and decisions can be based on up-to-date data rather than estimates or manual readings.
This visibility directly improves operational continuity. Crane preparation is smoother, assemblies are better anticipated, and maintenance can be organized more methodically, without unnecessary downtime or unplanned interruptions.
First field deployment at AT Optimat 63
The very first crane equipped with Charlie Solutions technology as standard is the
, which has left the factory and been delivered to A.T Optimat 63 (Toueix Group).
In a multi-site environment with demanding operational requirements, the company was looking for a digital tracking solution that could provide reliable visibility of its assets while integrating seamlessly with its existing ERP system. The challenge was twofold: to have a tool adapted to the specificities of tower cranes, which often consist of many separate components, and to ensure the reliability of the information shared between the technical, logistics, and administrative teams.
The CHARLIE solution allows us to track our assets, geolocate them, and upload data to our ERP via API. Technical teams have easy access to information, data is shared, and there is less risk of error. We can perform an inventory in just a few clicks. We secure the tracking and traceability of our assets, which saves a significant amount of time and is reassuring. In addition, the solution is offered as a factory installation by our partner MANITOWOC POTAIN, which is an advantage.

How is Charlie Solutions deployed at Potain?
At Potain, Charlie Solutions is deployed to connect crane components such as masts, booms, chassis, and accessories. The equipment is individually identified using robust sensors, detected by trackers installed in the rotating parts of the cranes, and supplemented by the mobile application used by field teams.
All data is centralized in a single platform, providing a real-time view of inventory, movements, and equipment availability across all sites.
The solution is also used to track after-sales service equipment, enabling better distribution of materials, faster response to customer requests, and structured maintenance tracking.
Thanks to this deployment, Potain now benefits from smoother management of its tower crane fleet, with better control of inventory, logistics flows, and maintenance operations, without adding to the burden of existing processes.

In the demanding world of tower cranes, we need to accurately track crane components for regulatory and safety reasons. We chose Charlie Solution to help us with the detailed and accurate tracking of all our equipment. Thanks to Charlie Solutions, Manitowoc has gained in efficiency, accuracy, and safety.

A new approach to tower crane management
With this partnership, Charlie Solutions and Potain are paving the way for more structured, reliable tower crane management that is firmly focused on field operations. By combining the business expertise of a leading manufacturer with proven IoT technology, operators now have a clear, shared view of their fleet based on centralized, up-to-date, and directly usable data.
This connected approach reduces the complexity inherent in crane fleets, which often consist of many separate components, while improving equipment availability, logistics operations, and maintenance planning. Decisions are no longer based on estimates or manual readings, but on reliable information that is accessible and synchronized across teams.
Beyond immediate operational performance, this partnership marks a key step in the sustainable modernization of tower crane management, introducing a more relaxed and transparent approach that is better suited to the growing demands of the sector.
